We take a moment to remember a friend of the Maywood Bataan Day Organization, as well as a true survivor. Louis Zamperini, Olympic track star, WWII POW, and survivor, died this month at the age of 97. There is so much to his life, no blog post could do him justice. We recommend you pick up the excellent retelling of his story in the book, Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, who also wrote Seabiscuit. Later this year, Angelina Jolie will be bringing Louis’ story to the big screen. Here is a story that ran on CBS Sunday morning to pay tribute to Louis Zamperini.
